Pug dogs
Origin
The Pug, one of the oldest breeds, has flourished true to his breed down through the ages from before 400 B.C. It's origin is subject to many opinions. Some thinks it came from the Lowlands, brought back from the Far East by Dutch traders. It's possibly of Oriental stock descended from a short-haired Pekingese, but another theory is it is the result of crossing a small Bulldog. Other theory is that it is a miniature form of the rare French Mastiff called Dogue de Bordeaux
Appearance
The current breed standards call for a square, cobby body, a compact form, deep chest, and well-developed muscle. Their heads, carried on arched necks, should be substantial and round, the better to accentuate their large, bulging, dark eyes. The wrinkles on their foreheads should be distinct and deep. Their fine, glossy coats can be apricot, fawn, silver or black
