Miniature Schnauzer
Origin
The earliest records surrounding development of the Miniature Schnauzer in Germany come from the late 1800s. They were originally bred to be farm dogs in Germany, for guarding herds, small farms, and families and to keep the rats and other vermin out of the barn, because they appeared to have a knack for it, and its small size was perfect to get into tight places to catch them .
Appearance
A small, squarely-proportioned dog with a long head, bushy beard, mustache and eyebrows.The small, v-shaped ears are set high and fold over except in countries where ear-cropping is practiced. The tail is docked to a short length. The size is from 12 to 14 inches, weight 14-15 lbs. He is sturdily built, nearly square in proportion of body length to height, with plenty of bone and without any suggestion of toyishness. Coat colors include salt & pepper, black, white or a harsh black and silver outer coat with a soft undercoat.
